We were just hitting our stride with workshops before Covid shut everything down. Many of you have been asking, and we're very excited to announce the return of our workshops! With three upcoming dates to choose from, make sure your summer plans include a visit to the 'Plant.

Purchase to book a 20 minute time slot to make your own filament.

After your purchase, we'll email a survey to learn about the color you want to make so we're prepared for our 20 minute session. Be thinking about words that best describe your vision!

Hoping to make multiple colors? Purchase as many slots as you need!

Shipping

We provide a number of domestic shipping options within the United States via UPS, including free shipping on orders of $50 or more. We also provide international shipping via DHL Express.

Returns

At ProtoPlant's discretion, returns and replacements will be accepted within 90 days of purchase.  Please check the material label before opening your product.  Only sealed product can be returned. Shipping of items for exchange or refund is paid by the customer. More information about returns and replacements can be found in our terms and conditions. 


Make your own custom, one-of-a-kind 3D printer filament!

Interested? Just choose a time, complete your purchase, complete our survey, and show up on time.

Flying in? PDX Airport is a short drive away. Heathman Lodge is one of many local lodging options.

You're booking a specific time slot, but please arrive at least 10 minutes early and be prepared to work on your color together for the allotted 20 minutes. 20 minute time slots are back-to-back, but should be plenty of time if you come prepared to help us understand your color goal.

You're purchasing a time-limited experience. If we figure out a color you like in the allotted 20 mintues, we'll make you 1 spool at no additional charge. If we don't figure out a color together (it happens), don't be too disappointed. We'll invite you to choose a spool from our shelves at no additional charge so you don't leave empty handed!

What we expect of you (this is a manufacturing facility):

  • Complete our safety waiver
  • Stay within designated areas
  • Wear provided PPE and follow safe practices
  • Be respectful of the space and follow directions
  • Be at least 16 years old (physically, kids at heart welcome)
  • Workshop is PLA only with on hand ingredients (no outside materials/mix-ins)

There will be plenty of opportunities for photos and fun. We want you to share the experience! Don't forget to tag us!!!

*BONUS* We'll record your recipe so we can reproduce it in the future. Whether it becomes a standard product or we grow to custom produce on demand, this workshop will help us create personalized products closer to your interests. How cool is that?

We came from Texas for this awesome experience

I don't really leave reviews a lot, but this one was definitely worth writing. My husband and I loved the experience of making our custom filament colors. We made a mini-vacation around this. The colors came out so awesome and we were talking about possibly making another vacation of it for a later date. Alex and his team were super nice and helpful. He was willing to try a few combinations to see if we could get the color closer to what I was looking for. The facility was clean and it was very interesting to see the pellets turn into the string of filament. I was also impressed when I heard that the operation was ran by nine people. It was nice that they were willing to ship the other filament we picked out while we were there so we wouldn't have issues bringing it home. We also tried the Crave Grille on Alex's recommendation and I would definitely go there again if I manage to make my way back that direction. We named our colors "Akira Loves Blue" and "Rise From Flame". First things I printed them were a Benchy and a floppy disk (my sister likes to see the colors I have and it's a lot smaller.) I hope that we can make another one in the future!

Anticipating Awesomeness

We haven't actually gotten to go yet (thanks Covid-19) but we are looking forward to our experience in June (fingers crossed). The customer service experience we've had so far with the Pasta Peeps has me so pumped for the actual event. My boyfriend is into 3D printing and is teaching me so I wanted to thank him with the full Pasta Experience. When I bought it, there was only one spot left. The Proto Pasta team were great and said I could still go, we'd just be limited to two spools of custom filament due to time and capacity constraints. This is awesome because we'll be able to do this together and have this great memory and two cool rolls of filament to share. Proto Pasta and their team rocks!
