A filament subscription to explore more than just PLA colors

Our Makers are eager to explore new function and techniques for creating novel 3D printing filaments. And they'd like to include you!

We crowdfunded with kickstarter in 2013 with 500 supporters backing our work to develop new pellet chemistries and the process to extrude them into filament. Dustin and Aaron experimented with various extrusion techniques and created a number of extrusion apparatuses on the path to making our filament extrusion machinery from scratch. Developing extrusion machinery, controls, and process, as well as creating and qualifying new materials and techniques is our passion.

For years, we've focused on maximizing ease of use with like materials. We dream about and tinker with a wider variety of materials and techniques internally, but, until now, didn't have a path to prioritizing or sharing that work. With the success of Endless PLA, we bring you Endless Exploration as our path to prioritize exploring new materials and techniques together with you.

Endless Exploration FAQ

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

Every other month, we select a topic and make unique materials. You’ll receive coils or spools, depending on your subscription level, of new, experimental Protopasta filaments in 1.75mm diameter.

WHAT OPTIONS ARE THERE?

Subscriptions are 1.75mm only, but you can choose coils or spools. You'll then select your preferred shipping method. Spools include a free shipping option for our domestic (US) customers. International customers can choose among FedEx, DHL, or UPS services.

WHAT TYPE OF MATERIALS ARE INCLUDED?

This will vary from novel PLAs to more flexible, more rigid (and potentially abrasive), and higher temperature materials. This subscription is for those that embrace a wider variety of materials.

All materials will first be tested by our in-house Makers. This will help us to provide some guidance for our subscribers, and ensure that each material is actually printable! These materials are expected to work with all the major printer manufacturers out there, and should not require any special hardware or upgrades aside from an upgraded nozzle.

That said, Explorations subscribers should expect to tweak and tinker! This subscription is meant for those who enjoy learning, experimenting, tweaking, tinkering, and playing. As mentioned, we can provide some guidance, but each user will want to spend time figuring out their best set-up.

HOW OFTEN WILL I GET MY FILAMENT?

We’ll be sending these out every two months. Each time around, you’ll be automatically charged on the same date you signed up. We typically produce and ship subscriptions the first full week of January, March, May, July, September, and November (all odd months). Any subscriptions purchased on or after the first will receive the following shipment.

There is no commitment, and you can cancel anytime (though we don't think you'll want to!) We also offer the option to "pause" your subscription, for those times when you have filament coming out your ears and just need a little time to catch up. Then, when you're ready, it's one click to start up again!
