Metal Composites for 3D Printing

Unlock new possibilities with our metal composites collection, the ultimate fusion of plastic and real metal. Designed for performance and polish, these filaments deliver the weight, texture, and finish of true metal parts. Explore magnetic PLA, metal filament, and high-density filament made to elevate your prints with added heft and post-processing potential. From concept to finished product, every metal composite filament offers precise detail, excellent layer adhesion, and eye-catching finishes. At Protopasta, we handcraft our materials for printability and durability, no compromises, just pure creative power. If you're ready to go beyond basic PLA, you're in the right place.

Premium Metal Filaments Made for Makers

What Are Metal Composite Filaments?

Metal composites are plastic filaments infused with fine metal powder. This adds weight, texture, and a matte metallic sheen to your prints. They're ideal for display pieces, functional parts, or anything that needs to feel premium.

You can polish, sand, or rust some filaments for unique finishes. The added metal makes parts feel like CNC-machined objects — but printed at home.

How Protopasta Does It Differently

We don't outsource innovation. At Protopasta, we design and manufacture our metal filament in-house. Every spool is small-batch made and hand-checked by makers.

This lets us push the boundaries with materials like high-density filament that’s still easy to print. It’s quality you can feel — and results you can trust.

Materials That Feel Like Metal

Magnetic PLA: Print With Function

Our magnetic PLA contains iron powder, giving it magnetic properties and a dark, industrial finish. It’s perfect for mounts, sensors, and parts that interact with magnets.

It prints like regular PLA but opens up more functional and creative uses. Sand or polish it for extra impact.

Weight & Finish That Impress

Metal composites don’t just look different — they feel different. The added weight adds realism and presence to your designs.

Post-process to enhance the look even more. Sanding, buffing, or controlled rusting (for iron-based blends) gives each part a unique finish. Ideal for display models and props.

Tips for Getting the Best Results

Print Smart with Metal Filaments

Use a hardened steel nozzle — metal particles wear down brass quickly. Slow down your print speed slightly, and bump up your nozzle temp a few degrees for smoother flow.

Also, make sure your extruder grip is strong enough for the denser material. A few tweaks go a long way for print quality.

HTPLA Metal Filaments: Tough + Heat Resistant

Our HTPLA metal composites can be heat-treated after printing. That makes them stronger, stiffer, and more heat-resistant than regular PLA.

Print your part, then anneal it in the oven to upgrade its durability. Protopasta gives you tools to go beyond standard settings — and standard results.
