Endless PLA #45 (Oct 2026) - Full Spectrum Colors for Blending

Endless PLA #45 (Oct 2026) - Full Spectrum Colors for Blending

This month's Endless PLA is a bit different. The colors are familiar, but modified for use with a fascinating new tool: Full Spectrum. Somewhat like Hue Forge, Full Spectrum allows color blending to create more colors from a limited palette. Unlike Hue Forge it can be applied to tall objects and to make specific colors which are blends of others. Would you believe this 8 color Macaw was created from only 4 colors?

This Rainbow Macaw was printed in 20 hrs at 0.20 mm layer thickness. Print your own with this link: https://space.snapmaker.com/en/model/14950-rainbow-macaw#profileId-16667

The orange, green, and purple are made from alternating layers of red + yellow, yellow + blue, and blue + red, respectively. The "smoke" colored log is all 3 colors in consecutive layers.

This Full Spectrum Sparkly Red is actually from our MORE delivery which includes Wonder Black and Unicorn Tears. CORE received Full Spectrum Sparkly Pink, Blue, and Yellow. See the difference between pink (left) and red (right) on the below birds. The beak and feet are a blend of all 3 colors.

Here's another look at the colors separately. Do you prefer red (left) or pink (right)? Can you notice the difference between the purples?

The above were at printed at 0.16 mm layer thickness. As you can see, they blend quite well, and that is by design. Below is a comparison to how lithophane filament (below left) blends at the same layer thickness.

Lithophane filament is intentionally more opaque so it requires much thinner layers to blend. In contrast, our first set of Full Spectrum colors are intentionally translucent with a transmissivity distance (TD) >10 for better blending at thicker layers for faster prints!

Well, I found this new Full Spectrum feature fascinating. How about you? I can't wait to see what you print!!!

3D Printing with Protopasta

For Protopasta HTPLA (and PLA) on Bambu machines, I start with the Generic PLA settings and increase the nozzle temp from 220 to 240 for our HTPLA colors. Make sure the build plate is set to 55C and the maximum volume rate is limited to 12 mm3/s. Use 100% layer fan, but I recommend turning off auxiliary fans.

I can't wait to see what you print with these. Whatever you make, I hope you are inspired by these fun filaments! Tag Protopasta to show us what you make!!!
