We recently traveled to Rocky Mountain RepRap Festival (RMRRF), and while the focus of a 3D printing festival like this is mostly future tech, I really enjoy nostalgic 3D prints like from @RetroMaker. There are so many iconic aesthetics and artifacts that can be recreated with 3D printing. The variety and quality of Protopasta filaments is perfect for making beautiful cherished things, retro-inspired or not.
Seeing beautiful Protopasta prints and hearing how much people appreciate the qualities of our filament motivates us to keep designing and making Protopasta. RMRRF attendees were stoked to see keychains inspired by our new stone filaments from May's Endless Exploration. The pet rock with googly eyes was particularly adorable. Did you know that all Protopasta filament is designed and made by us in the USA from scratch? For real. All of it! June's Endless PLA colors are no exception!!! With the details behind our inspiration below, I introduce to you June's Contemporary Colors: Sun Gold Yellow, International Orange, and Lapis Lazuli (left to right below)
More about June's Contemporary Colors...
Sun Gold Yellow
This emulates a metallic yellow I've seen on the Ford Focus ST car, but it would also look great on an old Mustang, muscle car, or other hot rod. Obviously yellow, but the gold really pops in the sunlight. It's a high-end finish with a retro vibe. It builds on my passion for creating automotive finish inspired colors like Joel's Highfive Blue and Tom's Orange.
Love cars like I do? This is the time of year to cruise to a car show or enjoy a drive-in movie. What you're favorite car flick? Gone in 60 Seconds? Ford vs. Ferrari? Fast and the Furious? Bullitt? Smokey and the Bandit? So many good ones to choose from!
International Orange
This warm color worn by the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and used in aviation is also a federal standard color. Federal Standard 595 color #FS 12197 or FEDSTD595 International Orange was special ordered by and custom formulated for American Airlines, but the color was too iconic not to share. Learn more about the history of International Orange.
While matching colors can be really challenging (and is sometimes not possible), it's also rewarding to accurately recreate a color like this. Subscribe to our newsletter for notification of community workshops where an individual can make a spool of custom color filament or contact us anytime if you need custom filament colors or composites in quantity for your business.
Lapis Lazuli
Inspired by Pelikan pen company's 2024 “Ink of the Year” color, Golden Lapis, Lapis Lazuli is honestly not a color I expected to like. Having designed many filament colors, I thought gold glitter in blue would not look good together. Boy was I wrong! It is stunning!!! Gold in blue adds a green hue and boy is it a treat for your eyes. Phenomenal color.
Thanks to Evan at penquisition.com for requesting and commissioning this color to 3D print pelican shaped pen rests to give away at the annual “Pelikan Hub” events.
Let's not forget about June's Classic Colors which bring along some complimentary tones. Enjoy Silver Smoke, Stratocumulus, and Cloverleaf Green. Below are all 6 colors for our Combo subscribers.
Inspired? We hope so! Enjoy these colors!!! May you build beautiful, inspired objects that bring joy to you and those around you. What will you print? Show us on social!
Missed out? June's Contemporary colors will be available in July for individual purchase. Classic colors are currently available. Subscribe to Endless PLA before July 31st to receive August's shipment (colors TBD).
