There's no denying the recent excitement for Quantum Dots. Not familiar? Consider our March blog. To recap a bit, Quantum Dots are highly fluorescent, but also mostly translucent. This is a unique feature when it comes to fluorescents and below is some ways creators have been leveraging that feature.
The trade-off is that Quantum Dot filament isn't much to look at in natural, daylight. Traditional fluorescents on the other hand can be bold, rich, and opaque in daylight while still providing that signature fluorescence under blacklight.
We've had fluorescent yellow in our catalogue since 2021 (blog for reference), and we've wanted to add more fluorescents for a long time. I just wasn't happy with the raw materials we had access to. Recently, I found a good source fluorescent powder pigments so we revised Fluorescent Yellow HTPLA and are adding pink, red, and blue. Red is arguably orange until you compare it to orange, then you understand why it's called red. Whatever you call it, it looks great so I hope you enjoy it!

These 3 new fluorescent filament colors are for both our CORE and MORE subscribers. MORE subscribers also get classic colors Atikam Teal (ATT), Lootsef Green (LOG), and Sophy's Aqua Phresh (SAP). If you remember, Atikam is Makita and Lootsef is Festool backwards. They are a couple of our tool colors introduced in 2022 (blog for reference).
Lootsef is actually made with fluorescent yellow and traditional yellow to balance the warm and cool tones. I really like how these 3 classic colors compliment one another and these new fluorescent colors. Sophy's Aqua Phresh in particularly unique with it's milky white finish. There is a kind of wonderful retro quality to this color.
Sophy's Aqua Phresh is a community color made in collaboration with Sophy Wong. Introduced in 2024, you can read more about it in this blog. Find all of our community-inspired colors in this collection. All-in-all, we hope you enjoyed the filaments this month!

3D Printing with Protopasta
For Protopasta HTPLA (and PLA) on Bambu machines, I start with the Generic PLA settings and increase the nozzle temp from 220 to 240 for our HTPLA colors. Make sure the build plate is set to 55C and the maximum volume rate is limited to 12 mm3/s. Use 100% layer fan, but I recommend turning off auxiliary fans.
I can't wait to see what you print with these. Whatever you make, I hope you are inspired by these fun filaments! Tag Protopasta to show us what you make!!!
